A small sheltered bay with one of the most expensive stretches of sand in Greece and a beach club culture that runs from lunchtime until well into the evening. Boats anchor off it through the summer and guests come ashore by tender. The hillside above it, Agios Lazaros, is dense with villa rentals looking across to Delos.
Practically, Psarou is ten to fifteen minutes from Chora outside peak traffic, with a steep and narrow access road that is genuinely busy at handover times. Bookings here are straightforward; the timing needs a little thought.
Platis Gialos: hotels and easy access
The neighbouring bay, larger and more hotel-heavy. Platis Gialos has the highest concentration of conventional hotel rooms on this side of the island, a long organised beachfront, and it is the departure point for the boats that run along the southern coast to Paradise, Agrari and Elia.
It is also the easiest part of this strip to reach. Wider road, better parking, less of a bottleneck than Psarou. If you are staying here, expect the quickest arrival times of the three.
Ornos as the quieter third option
Closest to town, more of a village than a scene, and a favourite with people who want the south coast without the volume. Ornos has a good spread of hotels and villas, an easy beachfront and the shortest run from Chora of anywhere on this strip. It is also the usual shore-side pickup point for boats anchored along the south-west coast.

Timing around beach club hours
The critical thing about this area. The beach clubs here run through the afternoon and into the evening, and the day does not end when the sun goes down. People go from the beach straight to dinner without going back to the room. That means the useful booking window is later than you would assume: nine, ten, eleven at night rather than seven.
It also means the road out of Psarou and Platis Gialos towards town is at its worst between roughly seven and nine, as everyone leaves at once. Booking either side of that window is faster.
Getting to you
From Chora, fifteen to twenty minutes in June and up to three times that on an August evening. Platis Gialos is the quickest of the three to reach, Ornos next, Psarou slowest because of the access road. All three sit inside our standard coverage, so there is no travel supplement for this strip.
Late arrivals
Straightforward and common. After about eleven the roads clear and this whole area becomes fifteen minutes from town regardless of the month. Late bookings here are among the smoothest we take.
The rest of the south coast
Psarou, Platis Gialos and Ornos are the core of this area, but the strip continues east and the same practicalities apply along all of it.
Paradise and Super Paradise
Further round the headland, and a different crowd. Younger, louder, running much later. The beach clubs here go until the small hours in August, which pushes the useful booking window later again. Accommodation is a mix of hotels and rented villas on the slopes behind the beaches. Access roads are steep and narrow, and the descent to Super Paradise in particular is not somewhere to be giving directions by phone at three in the morning, so agree a meeting point in advance.
Agrari, Elia and Kalo Livadi
The eastern end of the southern strip: quieter, more spread out, and increasingly where the newer luxury properties are being built. Elia has the largest organised beach on the island and a good spread of hotels behind it. These take a little longer to reach than Psarou, about twenty-five minutes from town outside peak traffic. They remain within standard coverage, so no supplement applies.
Agios Ioannis and the sunset side
West of Ornos, looking across to Delos, and the best sunset views on the island. A small area with a handful of high-end hotels and a dense cluster of villa rentals on the hillside. Very close to town, very easy to reach, and one of the more pleasant places to be on Mykonos at eight in the evening.

This strip is more polished than the rest of Mykonos and companions dress for it. At a Psarou or Platis Gialos property, a guest arriving looks exactly like every other guest arriving, which is the whole of the discretion strategy and the reason it works.
Duration

Yes, and it is a regular booking through the summer. It needs a tender at an agreed time and a shore-side pickup point, usually Psarou, Platis Gialos or Ornos. Arrange the tender with your crew for both legs, tell us the timings, and give us more notice than you would for a hotel.
Which of the three is easiest to book to?
Platis Gialos, marginally. Wider roads, better parking and less of a bottleneck than the descent into Psarou. Ornos is closest to town and quickest in absolute terms. Psarou is the slowest of the three purely because of the single narrow access road, and only at peak handover times. In practice the difference is ten minutes and it never changes the price.
Do the beach clubs matter to the booking?
Only for timing. We do not arrange anything at the clubs themselves, but their hours decide when you are actually back at your room, and on this strip that is later than most people plan for. Can I book for the afternoon rather than the evening?
Yes. Afternoon and early-evening bookings on this strip are perfectly possible and are often easier to arrange than late ones, because the diaries are emptier. The setting suits it too. A villa terrace or a hotel room on this coast in the late afternoon is a considerably more pleasant proposition than the same booking at two in the morning.
